We need to lower the saturated, trans, and hydrogenated fat intake in our diets, which increase blood cholesterol, interfere with metabolism, damage immune system functions, and cause premature aging in various ways, while maintaining healthy levels of monounsaturated and Polyunsaturated fats, which promote healthy brain and nerve function as well as increasing energy and concentration levels, providing greater resistance to common illnesses by supercharging immune system functions, and serving many common purposes in antiaging principles
Polyunsaturated and mono unsaturated fats are known to improve blood cholesterol levels, as well as promote healthy body functions such as immunity and brain function.
Unsaturated fats are found in products derived from plants like nuts, seeds and vegetable oils. High intake of these good guys lowers the risk of heart and other diseases. Individual acids in this category such as Omega 3 are also linked to various qualities in a healthy prolonged life.
Olives; olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil; cashews, almonds, peanuts, and most other nuts; avocados, Corn, soybean, safflower, and cottonseed oils; fish
The Bad
Saturated Fats, mostly found in animal products such as meat, dairy, eggs, and seafood, should be taken in moderation. They increase total blood cholesterol as well as LDL (bad cholesterol) levels
They are not as bad as some make them out to be, the key here being a healthy intake and level of Saturated fats, and from more naturally occurring (less processed) sources.
Whole milk, butter, cheese, and ice cream; red meat; chocolate; coconuts, coconut milk, and coconut oil
Trans Fats are huge in today’s food products, and probably a huge factor in the growing epidemic of obesity. A side process of hydrogenating liquid oils so they can better withstand food processing procedures, Trans fatty acids found in many packaged and fried food should be avoided.
They raise the bad (LDL) cholesterol levels in our bodies, as well as lowering the levels of the good (HDL) cholesterol and bring about many health ailments we don’t want nor need!
Most margarines; vegetable shortening; partially hydrogenated vegetable oil; deep-fried chips; many fast foods; most commercial baked goods
The Ugly
Hydrogenated fats are mostly man made byproducts, and are a major cause of health epidemics in many countries. Popular in the form of baked, packaged, and fried foods, we are constantly eating more and more of these ugly guys in our fast paced and convenience centric society.
Substituting these products for more naturally occurring fats derived from animal and plant sources goes along way in aiding a campaign against aging
